Proč jsem se vlastně rozhodla seznamovat diabetiky se zdravými plodinami? Hlavně proto, že diabetici obecně mají většinou nedostatek vitamínů a minerálů. Často se při té „chlebové dietě“ tolik minerálů a vitamínu do těla nedostane a také spousta minerálů diabetik ztratí při hypoglykemii či hyperglykemii. Jsem spíše pro přírodní doplňování vitaminů a minerálů, než pro polykání tabletek.
Pro diabetika je důležitý přísun optimální přísun chromu, zinku, hořčíku, draslíku, železa a vitamínů skupiny B.
Pro pacienta s cukrovkou je důležitý chrom. Zvyšuje účinek inzulínu a je nezbytný pro správný metabolismus sacharidů, bílkovin i lipidů. Mezi dobré zdroje chromu patří obecně maso, měkkýši, ryby, vejce, celozrnné obiloviny, ořechy a některé druhy ovoce a zeleniny.
Zinek má výborné protizánětlivé účinky pomáhá léčit diabetickou nohu, navíc podobně jako chrom podporuje účinek inzulínu.
Také hořčík je pro diabetiky nezbytný, zlepšuje totiž citlivost diabetiků na inzulín. Navíc hořčík diabetici ztrácí při hypoglykemii.
Při hyperglykemii zase diabetik přichází o velké množství draslíku. I ten je potřebný pro správné fungování těla. Výrazným zdrojem draslíku jsou banány, které ale asi není vhodné dávat zrovna při hyperglykemii, při optimální glykemii ale super draslíková bomba. Při hyperglykemii se ideální zdroj zdá avokádo, které hladinu cukru v krvi téměř nezvýší.
Vitamíny skupiny B (B1, B2, B6, B12) se účastní metabolizmu cukrů, tuků a bílkovin a pozitivně ovlivňují vstřebávání a vylučování potravy.
Železo pomáhá bojovat s únavou a celkově posiluje odolnost organizmu.
Všechny tyto zmíněné látky jsou přirozeně obsažené mj. v pivovarských kvasnicích. O jejich blahodárném účinku se zmiňoval již švýcarský biochemik a fyziolog Emil Abderhalden (v první polovině 20. století), když označil pivovarské kvasnice jako „druh rostlinného inzulínu,“ který s velkým úspěchem použil při léčení pacientů s cukrovkou.
